I was your average western eater. As an American I was even worse as I also ate too much. I did not do anything that society did not encourage. Medical professionals pushed low fat eating and said do not eat white bread, white rice and potatoes in large quantities. Restaurants offered "super sized" meals, and large portions in general. Food and meals did not generally even meat the guidelines of what was recommended.
I ate everything and in large quantity. I ate thousands of calories a day sometimes and hundreds of grams of carbs without even paying attention.
I got married at 18 and weighed 135 pounds. I was scrawny. My ex-wife had two pregnancies and I gained as much as she did both time. She lost the weight, I did not. At my largest I got up to 260 pounds. I did the original Atkins, but saw it as a diet and not a lifestyle and got down to 220 pounds. I stayed between 220 and 235 pounds after that.
I wanted to lose weight but I would start and stop more traditional diets and never had a real success.
